Course Description: This course introduces beginning and advanced students to the formal and technical issues of on-site painting. Students will learn to accurately and creatively render from life. The class will address the challenges and benefits posed from working on-site. Taking advantage of the city of Florence and its environs students will work primarily on location in museums, gardens and other historic locations of interest to the instructor and students. For practical reasons students will be encouraged to use only water based colors though more advanced students may choose to further develop work done on location in other medium outside of class time.

Instructor

Gene Baldini is an American artist living in Florence for 17 years. Baldini has 13 years experience teaching at the university level at schools in both the U.S. and abroad. He has participated in or has been responsible for diverse summer workshops including: Kendall School of Design- Grand Rapids Michigan"Summer In Italy", Queens College, Huntington, Long Island as "Guest Artist The Landscape", "Tuscan Landscape Workshop", "Hori is Seminars"- Nykobing, Denmark and TASIS Figure Drawing workshop in the Mugello. Mr. Baldini holds a Masters degree from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute of Art. He exhibits regularly in both the U.S. and Europe, and has been awarded several fellowships and prizes including a Fulbright Grant to Italy .
