| Course Description: Credit hours: 3--Contact hours: 90 Course # 22-2224 SR Dept: Art and Design This course will focus on the basic methods, materials, and histories of Intaglio, Relief, and Monotype printing. We will visit the basic principles of all three printmaking methods in rapid succession in order to produce monochromatic, single-run prints before moving on to the more involved techniques used in creating full color, multi-run editions and series. Students will be expected to complete two editions (1/10 – 10/10) each of relief and intaglio as well as two fully developed monotypes. Students will learn not only the skills and techniques involved in producing a printed image, they will also study the history of each of the various processes, become familiar with exceptional samples of printed work, learn the nomenclature of prints, and have the opportunity to collaborate with one-another in the vigorous processes of printmaking. The syllabus may be amended as the course proceeds. You will be given ample notification of any change. |
